OPAL Registration and Basic Mathematics for Master Students

Scope of the Online Course

Master courses at the TU Chemnitz require a well founded basic knowledge of higher mathematics. Bachelor courses at the TU Chemnitz provide this knowledge by a series of lectures on higher mathematics. It is important for all applicants to familiarize with the required level of mathematical knowledge.

The faculty of mathematics at the TU Chemnitz wants to help applicants for a master course to testify their mathematical understanding and to raise it to the required level. To this end the faculty of mathematics offers a series of online exercises and tests covering all required mathematical disciplines. Applicants for a master course at the TU Chemnitz are encouraged to pass this online test.

The access to the online test is free. There is no restriction in the number of attempts to pass the online test. In contrary, participants are encouraged to familiarize with the mathematical topics using the supplementary material linked within the tests and to repeat the tests until they pass.

How to register at OPAL

The online test is hosted at OPAL. In order to attend the test you first have to register at OPAL. To do so proceed as in the following steps:
  1. Go to the registration page, click: "Don't belong to one of the listed universities" followed by "Register" and enter in the pop up window your email address

  2. After receiving the invitation email click the included link, fill in your username, first name, surename, and choose some password. For the institution please select TU Chemnitz.

  3. After clicking "Send" you need to accept the terms of use

    For Master Students in the Study Program Advanced Manufacturing

    In the first semester you will have to attend the course Mathematics for Engineering Science and work through this online course The chapters 1-5 will be part of the semester course. In order to get prepared, we encourage new students to work through the two pre-course chapters. In addition, we offer an online course on basic mathematics (German Abitur level), which can be worked through in parts as required. However, this is currently being converted to English and is therefore not yet fully available in English.
