Use Dolphin as the default filemanager for KDE 3.5.x

You are still using KDE 3.5.x and want to use Dolphin (0.8.x) as the default filemanager? You want the storage media notification popup to open Dolphin instead of Konqueror? Then this little trick is for you.

What you need to do:
  • Open the file /usr/share/applications/kde/kfmclient_dir.desktop with your favorite editor
  • Change Exec=kfmclient openURL %u inode/directory to Exec=dolphin %u
  • Save and you are done!
Note:
This is a system-wide setting, thus you need to have administrative privileges to edit this file. If you wish to change this setting only for one user, copy the file to ~/.kde/share/applications/kde/kfmclient_dir.desktop and edit it.
Of course you can also change the other options, such as Icon or Name.
