Das neue System UNICODE kann an sich problemlos mit der Kombination von Japanisch, Deutsch (Umlaute) und Sonderzeichen umgehen - kniffliger ist die Bereitstellung eines geeigneten Zeichensatzes (hier CYBERBIT.ZIP für Windows9x und NT).

Der Internet Explorer arbeitet allerdings nicht mit (nur) einer Datei, sondern kann für die in dem Dokument genutzten Codebereichen mehrere nebeneinander verwenden und darstellen.

Der Browser »Opera« ist total ungeeignet.

Die Browser stellen sich anhand einer META-Angabe automatisch auf Unicode um. Beim Netscape3 sollte man bei genügend Erfahrung die NETSCAPE.EXE patchen und dabei
UNICODE-1-1-UTF-8
durch
UTF-8
ersetzen.
